Each registered voter gets 1 vote for mayor, 1 vote for your ward councilor, up to 4 votes for your at-large councilor, and up to 3 votes for school committee.
A preliminary election in September is triggered when the number of candidates for a position are more than 2x the number of open seats for that position. Which means: 3 or more candidates for mayor; 3 or more candidates for ward seats; 9 or more candidates for at-large seats; 7 or more candidates for school committee.
