Guest Speaker: Senator Joan Lovely

Sen. Lovely’s presentation covered current legislation Including:

• Rent Control – will it accomplish what it is intended to do by preventing displacement and adding stability. Control of corporate landlords. Cons could be deceased supply, decreased maintenance and lowering city budgets by devaluing property

• Medicare for All

• Rank Choice voting

• Same Day registration

• Public Transportation

• The Audit of the legislature

Bills

• Teacher’s Pension System revamped

• Regulating Phalates in IV tubing

• Fair Share Budget. 4% increase in tax for millionaires

• Education Grants

• National Guard Museum to come to old courthouse building in Salem using Federal funds

Works in progress

• Health Center

• Wrong way driver prevention

• Sexual Assault by persons in positions of Authority or Trust

• Mass Save Cuts

Senator Lovely took questions from the floor.

New Business 

Danvers Candidate debate will be on June 24

Affirmative Action Chair: Shay Jaboin nominated by Lydia King elected by acclamation

SCC Resolution on rent stabilization. Members should contact City reps with their concerns.

Next Meeting: Social/Fundraiser at Salem Willows Monday July 20 @ 6:30PM across from the Arcades, beyond the huge Beech tree. Bring your own dinner and a side to share. Blanket or chair. Non disposable plates cutlery. There will be soft drinks and water.
